"You know what we could get that would be safer and just as warm? A kotatsu."
Ah but! "Not right now though. Because you said two of my favorite things to do with you and then followed it up with a third."
Cupping his face, he kissed him deeply before pulling back with a grin. "So you don't have to go out in the cold I'll run to the kitchen to make the cocoa, okay? And see what treats P'Vegas left out for us."
"Check for marshmallows~!" As if he even had to say that.
When Riley was off to get their drinks and treats, Will took a moment to create a small rack beside the record player. All of the records he bought would fit there with room to spare, but he was most concerned with the one Riley created since it didn't have a sleeve to protect it. Once that was done, he put another record on, some soft piano music. Then he flopped onto the couch, quickly joined by the pets, to wait.
Riley had marshmallows as well as a bowl with candies in it. This should have been hard to carry with two steaming mugs of chocolate but he'd created a tray of ice with slots to set everything in so they wouldn't slide. Something Will would get to see as Riley came back in. Setting that down on the table, he got out treats for all their babies from his pocket.
"Don't worry, I got something for all of you. And a kiss too." Once every pet had a treat and a kiss, he curled into Will and offered him one of the mugs after adding in the marshmallows.
Will lifted an arm to drape around Riley's shoulder and took the offered cup. He let out a contented sigh as the warmth of the mug seeped into his skin. Even better was the warmth of Riley curled up at his side.
He'd only ever been a dad to the animals but he did try to be good to them, take care of them and make sure they were always happy. Hearing that he was a good dad to them made him honestly thrilled and he gave Will's cheek a kiss to thank him.
"I do. I get to see it every day with my own eyes." How could Riley be anything but? He never balked when Will suggested they make their precious babies' food themselves. He doesn't ever complain about how spoiled they are. In fact, he leaned into Will's crazy-pet-parent behaviors with enthusiasm!
Nestling close, but mindful of their drinks, Will huffed out a quiet sigh. "I wouldn't want to have this family with anyone but you."
"Well that's good. Because now you're stuck with me!"
He smiled at him as he sipped at his drink. Playful as he sounded though he really meant it. Will was his soulmate so no matter what he would always have him. Riley had decided that they day they'd decided to get serious and had sealed that the day he'd fought the Queen and had even managed to hurt her.
Will meant the universe to him and always would.
"This is another topic but you know what would be so pretty that we should do?"
"Oh no~" he laughed, giving Riley a light squeeze. "Anything but that."
Another kiss landed on Riley's cheek and Will unwound his arm from Riley's shoulder so he could reach up and brush his hair behind one ear. Ah, he could spend the rest of his life just adoring this Fae beside him. No his sun or his moon, not even the stars of his sky. No, Will's come to realize that Riley is so much more than that. He's the deep dark between the stars, ever-present and visible even when the light of celestial bodies was obscured and unseen.
Leaning his head back, he pointed to the ceiling above them. "I want to paint the ceiling in splashes of so many different colors. And then you can decorate with flowers swirling through those colors. That way every time you look up it's like a world of color and imagination..."
Tipping his head back to follow Riley's gaze, he listened and found his breath caught in his chest. He could picture it so clearly, Riley's beautiful art and his own precious flowers. Flowers that would never wilt or shed a petal so they would always be there.
"That's a beautiful idea," he sighed, laying his hand over his heart. "Let's do it!"
Sipping at his chocolate, he looked over at smiled so brightly at Will. He'd known that his husband would love it but having that proven always delighted him to no end.
"I'll look for the right paints to do it. I'll need a lot of them to do both rooms. Then once the paint is dried you can add in your flowers! It'll be like looking through a kaleidoscope every time you look up."
"Are you sure your secret speciality isn't designing amazing ceilings?" He meant the ceiling at Pete's, which was one of his favorite features of the place. It was so elegant and beautiful and a little ethereal.
"Our little home here will always look and smell like a fresh spring garden when we're done."
"Amazing ceilings? Oh you mean the one at Pete's! That one was a lot of fun. It suits there too. Just like I think this spring garden one will suit our home."
Riley took a sip of his drink then smiled at Will. Well, after he licked off the chocolate that was on his lip since he'd made them extra chocolatey! "And then every time I look up for inspiration my greatest inspiration will be there flowing through colors of my own making."
“I love it,” he purred, reaching over to tuck some hair behind Riley’s ear. “You’re going to paint us such a lovely world,” he sighed happily. After a moment of dopey gazing, Will blinked and suddenly asked, “Would you teach me to paint, love?”
"Sure. Do you want to learn?" Riley wasn't sure he'd be a good teacher but he sure would do his best to make sure that Will got to learn to do something like this. After all, he loved when his husband gave him tips on photography so it would be amazing to teach him to paint in return.
"I do," he quipped eagerly. "Even just basics would be wonderful. I don't have to be good at it, but it's something I've always wanted to learn. Who better to teach me than my genius husband?"
Riley thought about that for a moment. But not about whether or not to teach Will, he'd obviously already agreed to that. Instead... "Mmmmm...I don't think there's such a think as being good or bad at art. It's just a matter of pouring your heart into it and remember that no matter what there will always be one person out there who will always love your work."
"You." He uttered the word with such deep affection. Art, Will thought, was a very natural thing. Just like music and dancing. At some point in history, they were transformed from natural behaviors to skills. Riley was completely correct: it's not about being good or bad and Will had to remind himself of that.
"I want to be able to add a few touches to our beautifully painted world, too. As long as you love them, that will make me happy."
"Yep! In your case it'll always be me!" Leaning over, he pressed a kiss to his cheek then smiled brightly at him. There were definitely advantages to being unable to lie. One of them being that every promise he made was sure to be kept.
"What touches do you want to add? I want to hear!"
"I'm not sure of the details, exactly." Will paused, gazing at Riley as he considered the question. "You bring all the brightness and warmth of the sun to my world. Maybe I could add the cooler, darker tones of nighttime?" Metaphorically, of course.
Riley tilted his head in thought at that. He even lifted a finger up to tap his chin as he did. "Hmmm...I like that. It's like we make a sunrise and sunset when we're together."
He blinked as he felt Will start to nibble on his finger. Then he giggled a little and poked his chin with it. "Very lucky. I'm glad you walked into that library and talked to me."
"At first I wasn't sure if I would. Or could. But then I looked at you through the window and knew that there was no way I could ever leave." Riley thought about it a moment as he thought back to that day several years ago now.
